Paul Walker alive for 'seconds' after impact: Coroner's report

Paul Walker died within seconds of impact after the Nov. 30 car crash that killed both he and driver Roger Rodas, according to a coroner's report on Friday (via the San Jose Mercury-News). The crash happened in Santa Clarita, Calif., when following a charity event the two men took a Porsche Carrera GT out for a spin. Ultimately, that spin because literal, as with Rodas behind the wheel the car went out of control, hit a light pole and a tree before bursting into flames on Hercules Street at Kelly Johnson Parkway.

Walker suffered a broken jaw, collar bone, elbow, several broken ribs, a broken pelvis and a spinal fracture. There were traces of soot in his trachea, and a carbon monoxide saturation level of 14 percent (normal is 2 percent), meaning that he was still alive -- briefly -- after the fire started. The report said though that, perhaps mercifully, both men died within seconds of impact.

Rodas suffered multiple blunt traumatic injuries during the crash, including a broken jaw, skull fractures, broken ribs and pelvis fractures. He had a carbon monoxide saturation level of 10 percent.

According to the autopsy, Walker was burned so bad none of his internal organs were suitable for donation.

Walker is, of course, best known for his role in the "Fast and Furious" movie series. Producers have said that the footage that Walker shot for "F&F7" prior to his death will be used, and the script by Chris Morgan tweaked, so that the character of Brian O'Conner can exit the film and "be retired," rather than being killed off.

The embedded video shows the crash site scant seconds after impact.
