Paul McCartney added his own new entry to the various versions of “New” on YouTube Sept. 11 with what's described as an “impromptu acoustic performance” of the song recorded before his recent show at the end of the Out There! tour in Regina, Canada.
You can see the video on this page. It's a longer version of the "teaser" posted Sept. 2.
As the video begins, Paul comes into what appears to be a dressing area and begins to whistle, then sing the song by himself. Shortly thereafter, he's joined by the members of his touring band – Brian Ray, Rusty Anderson, Abe Laboriel Jr. and Paul “Wix” Wickens. Anderson strums an acoustic guitar while he and the rest of the group add acappella harmonies. It's a great version.
Paul's “New” publicity campaign is heating up: He's featured in the Sept. 13 issue of Entertainment Weekly. It features a blurb by Kyle Anderson calling “New” “a return to old ways” and “a lost Fab Four classic.”
