Various tabloid and news websites came out this week with a story saying Paul McCartney was planning to go into business for himself.
How? They had the former Beatle taking on tours in Liverpool. The story apparently originated from the Daily Star, which quoted Macca as saying “I would really love to start up a sightseeing business. I have my own magical mystery tours of the city, my own special route I go on, and I think other people would love it too. I want to give something back to the locals.”
The tour guide story was even picked up by the veteran British music paper the New Musical Express on their NME.com website.
Well, Beatle tour operators and everyone else, you can rest easy. The story isn't true. His representatives told us the story was taken from "old quotes and said as a joke." So McCartney won't be competing in the tour guide business anytime soon.
And, in fact, he told the Liverpool Daily Post in December in what was obviously a tongue-in-cheek comment, "I’m kind of busy at the moment, but if the work ever dries up I’ll set up as a tour guide.”
