Paul McCartney shares memories of 9/11 in new documentary

Paul McCartney saw the tragic events of 9/11 while on the tarmac at a New York airport. He later met with firefighters and rescue workers and conceived and planned the massive Concert for New York at Madison Square Garden.

That story will be the focus of "The Love We Make," a documentary co-directed by veteran filmmaker Albert Maysles to premiere on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/PT Sept. 10, a day before the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

Maysles' previous work includes "What's Happening! The Beatles in the U.S.A." and the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter."" Filmmaker Bradley Kaplan ("Muhammad and Larry", "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out") is the other co-director. Maysles shot the new film in 16mm cinéma véritée, also used for the Beatles film.

"It was an honor to be able to help New York and America at that time in its history," McCartney said in a press release about the film. "There was a feeling of shock and fear in the air that I thought we could help alleviate with music. And the fact that so many people stepped in to join us made for a very uplifting evening for us all."
