Paul McCartney seen crossing Abbey Road again

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were all photographed crossing Abbey Road in London by Iain Macmillan in 1969 for one of the most celebrated rock 'n' roll portraits of all time. It's not every day that a Beatle has been seen crossing Abbey Road since.

Well, it happened Tuesday morning. The Beatle was Paul McCartney, who wasn't crossing on foot, but was driving down the celebrated street. Richard Porter, who guides the London Beatle Walks and can be found on www.beatlesinlondon.com, says he saw McCartney driving over the crossing.

"We were standing by the Abbey Road crossing when I saw Paul's car out of the corner of my eye. As the car went by us, driving over the crossing, I noticed Paul was driving." He said Paul's fiance, Nancy Shevell, was in the passenger seat and there were two children in the back."

"Just saw him for a few seconds in his car," Porter told us. "(He) was going north down Abbey Road. Thought for a moment was going to the studios, but (he) drove past."

Porter says McCartney was driving the car, not his assistant John Hammel, so it may have been personal business. Given that Paul McCartney became a grandfather over the weekend (see our story here), it could be he was on his way to visit the new baby.
