Paul McCartney's hair being auctioned to raise money for Beatles movie project

In an effort to boost fundraising for a planned movie project about former Beatles fan club secretary Freda Kelly on kickstarter.com, strands of Paul McCartney's hair are now being auctioned on eBay.

The three strands of McCartney hair was put on eBay by collector Wayne Rogers. A strand of George Harrison's hair was put up on eBay previously by Rogers and dealer and price guide author Perry Cox. All proceeds from each auction are to benefit the funding of the movie. The Harrison hair auction had a high bid of $227.50 Monday with five days to go.

As of Monday morning with four days to go, backers of the "Good Ol' Freda" movie project on Kickstarter.com had signed 392 backers and raised $38,941, roughly 77% of the money needed. The project needs to raise $50,000 by 2:59 a.m. EST Nov. 12 to be funded.

In the project's latest online update, Billy Kinsley, bass player with Liverpool's the Merseybeats who played on bills with the Beatles at the Cavern, praised Kelly and her stories about the Beatles.

"I think I've got some great stories of my own from those days but Freda beats me hands downs when it comes to her Beatle memories.  I've read many books and stories of  'The Lads' as she calls them, but they are never as good or as accurate and honest as the tales I've heard from her."
