Paul McCartney performs live in Berlin. (Photo by Bob Gannon.)
Here is Bob Gannon's report from Berlin (thanks, Bob!) with the full setlist and pictures. (See the slideshow with more pictures at the bottom of the page.)
Took the German ice Train to Berlin to catch the 2nd night of the tour. VIP Packages were told to arrive at 530 p.m. but for some reason the arena did not let us in until after 615 p.m. We were then brought up to the O2 World Restaurant. The food was fantastic and while we ate, we could hear sound check going on. We may have missed a song or two but here what we did hear01. All my loving02. Coming Up03. C Moon04. I want to come home05. Celebration06. I've just seen a face07. San Francisco Bay Blues08. I don't know? (started out kind of sounding like a Gregorian chant but then it kept changing speeds and inflection to where it may have been something used as vocal warm up. Only words recognizable were I Don't Know09. Dance Tonight10. Leaning on a Lamp Post/ Something medley11. Calico Skies12. YesterdayWe were led back down to our seats around 830 p.m. The crowd was much more into it than the Hamburg crowd was the night before. Although Paul and the band and performed a scorching and flawless set in Hamburg, a lot of the crowd never got on their feet. A lot of sitters in Hamburg.Berlin was much different in that aspect, a real good portion of the arena was standing. The short turn around and Paul's long day meeting the EU in Brussels played havoc with his voice a little. His voice cracked numerous times and he forgot the lyrics to several songs. While playing "Blackbird" he added an extra note on his guitar. The concert was still very fun but it didn't seem like he was on his "A" game tonight.But the crowd was so into the show, it definitely kept this night's show lively. He was a little less interactive with the crowd tonight as well.Towards the end of the show, I saw what looked to be James McCartney come from back stage with an MPL employee and taken to a reserved seat on the floor..Once again the two added songs sounded fantastic! The set list was the same from the night beforeSet List01. Magical Mystery Tour02. Drive my Car03. Jet04. Only Mama Knows05. Flaming Pie06. Got To Get You Into My Life07. Let Me Roll it/ Foxey Lady outro08. Highway09. Long and winding road10. (I Want to) Come Home11. My Love12. Blackbird13. Here Today14. Dance Tonight15. And I Love Her16. Mrs Vanderbilt17. I have to assume the "lean on a lamppost" was Paul doing "Every Night."
Pete - google "leaning on a lamppost george formby". If Paul played it on the ukelele it was most likely this song and not "Every Night". I am fairly positive that Bob Gannon could spot and name any Paul song in one note with one ear closed. :)
Pete, Marie: Paul is singing "Something." He starts it out on the ukelele in tribute to George, then moves to the band. I believe it was once George's uke that George gave him, too.
Steve - I meant the soundcheck version # 10 that Bob G mentions. I think that is what Pete was referring to also. (10. Leaning on a Lamp Post/ Something medley). This is different than the Something version that Paul does in concert (I have been to a few). He starts out by playing Leaning on a Lamp Post and goes into Something. Yes, the uke is one that George gave to Paul.
Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da? Wow, that is a new one!
No Pete, I mean "Leaning on a Lamp Post"...in bootleg form, Beatles, Lennon, Harrison and Paul have all done. And really, I maybe wouldn't call it a medley because it's more like a false start. He'd start playing it and singing the first verse "I'm laning on a lamp post at the corner of the street until a certain little lady passes by" and then cut right into the common version of something that we now hear in concert
Nice job, once again Bobbo!!
{my boss just asked me if I was gonna look at McPictures all day long.......}
That #15 here is the ONE!!!
Thanks Steve!
RG, killing me here on the wrong continent!
