News that Paul Bearer died has hit the pro wrestling world as of late Tuesday into Wednesday. Bearer, real name William Moody, was age 58 at the time of his death and had an important role in the WWE serving as the manager of The Undertaker.
Update: New info on Paul Bearer cause of death
A report from US Magazine arrived on March 6 indicating that WWE first announced the news on its website. The full statement from the WWE's website regarding Moody's passing reads:
"WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of William Moody, aka Paul Bearer. Moody made his WWE debut in 1991 as the manager of The Undertaker and went on to become a memorable part of WWE over the course of the next 20 years. Our deepest condolences go out to Moody's family, friends and fans."
Paul Bearer first came into the World Wrestling Federation (WWF now WWE) back in 1990. His role started out as the sinister manager of the dark and mysterious wrestler known as The Undertaker. Bearer would lead Taker to the ring carrying a special urn which contained powers that helped his wrestler conquer opponents in the ring.
Over the years, Bearer would become the manager for other wrestlers including Undertaker's brother Kane, and one of his major foes, Mankind. Bearer was last seen on WWE TV programming last year during a feud between Kane and Randy Orton, where Bearer was tied to a wheelchair and ended up locked into a storage freezer by Kane.
A report from TMZ indicated Bearer had suffered from "morbid obesity and gallbladder issues." However, as of this report there is no official cause of death for William Moody.
