Pau Gasol trade rumors have popped up again. As the NBA trade deadline approaches, a Gasol trade for Andre Iguodala was getting talked about on the internet Wednesday night (Feb. 20). Overnight, though, a report seems to have struck down those rumors.
Denver Post writer Benjamin Hochman has stated that, "The Nuggets are NOT trading Iguodala for Gasol, I've been told. Put the rumors to rest." That seems to put down those rumors, even though they didn't really ring true to begin with.
Houston Rockets Want Dwight Howard
Since the LA Lakers appear ready to invest in Dwight Howard with a long-term contract, it makes sense that Gasol has become more expendable. Both he and Iguodala are unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2013-14 season, so the trade might make sense on paper. It doesn't work if the Nuggets have no interest in Gasol though.
It's worth mentioning that Iguodala could opt out of his contract at the end of the current season, as it is a player option he has with the Nuggets next year. He is due almost $16 million for next season, which probably means he will decide to opt in unless a bigger contract extension presents itself.
There are likely to be more Pau Gasol trade rumors surfacing as the 3 p.m. ET NBA trade deadline approaches on Feb. 21. It looks like the LA Lakers won't be sending him to the Denver Nuggets, but it's still possible he could be dealt if the team can find the right scenario.
