Oklahoma native Patti Page passed way on New Year's Day. In a report dated Jan. 2, the talented and famous singer died in California at the age of 85.
KWTV Channel 9 News in Oklahoma City also reported on Jan. 2 that Patti Page was born in Claremore. The singer grew up in Tulsa.
“I remember my grandmother and mom talking about Patti Page,” Dani Lyons, from Oklahoma City, said. “My mom called me and told me about her death. When she married Dad, their first dance as a married couple was to 'Tennessee Waltz.' Dad was born in Memphis.”
When Pattie Page couldn't afford backup singers, she used her own voice for their parts. This created a unique sound in 1947.
Patti Page was best known for singing “Tennesse Waltz.” She had 24 24 records in the top 10 and four number one records. In addition to her singing career, Patti Page had television programs on three major networks.
