“The American people are sick and tired of the corruption that is destroying America,” the “Truckers to Shutdown America” Facebook page announces. “We therefore declare a GENERAL STRIKE on the weekend of October 11-13, 2013!”
Stay home! Buy nothing!
“Truck drivers will not haul freight! Workers will call in sick! Consumers will not buy or sell anything on this date! Stay home! Buy nothing!”
In just three days the social media movement gathered over 62,000 site members.
I am tired of seeing officials ignoring our rights and Constitution
“When I saw what the bikers did in Washington, D.C. on September 11th, and read about Congress taking on the defunding of Obamacare, I knew it was going to come down to the average American to finally stand up, be counted and have our voices heard about the Obama and Congress corruption,” Omaha trucker Steven Hilburn said.
“I am tired of seeing officials ignoring our rights and Constitution and we are going to do something about it, " Hilburn added.
Reaction on the Facebook page indicates nationwide support for a large convoy to Washington and a shutdown of trucks across America on those three days.
We are not even going to buy pizza
Non-truckers are pledging support by not shopping, spending money or paying bills on those days.
"I can't commit to being in the convoy, but I will keep my three rigs off the roads," stated Allan Slider, a Mississippi truck owner. "We are not evening going out to buy a pizza during the protest."
