The series centers on an unorthodox but effective FBI veteran, Charles Barker (Patrick Swayze), who takes on a rookie partner, Ellis Dove (Travis Fimmel). Barker trains Dove in a hard-edged, psychologically driven approach towards undercover work, where a moment's hesitation can lead to death. Barker applies controversial techniques in his attempts to bring criminals to justice, which often border on illegal and unsettle his inexperienced partner.
Dove's loyalty to his partner is challenged when internal affairs agent Ray Beaumont (Larry Gilliard) approaches him to gain information. Shortly thereafter, Dove learns of darker secrets in Barker's past. The show is set and shot on location in Chicago, Illinois.
Patrick Wayne Swayze is an American actor, dancer, and singer-songwriter. He had signed on to be the lead in a new A&E television series, The Beast, which began airing on January 15, 2009, and he was the lead. Now, April 2009, due to Swayze's health, (as of April 19, 2009, doctors have told Swayze that the cancer has now spread to his liver).
Swayze has been forced to concentrate on his health right now, although his performance in the show, The Beast, has been outstanding, and he has insisted to continue to work (on any project(s) ) as long as he can.
