Patrick Swayze died from cancer on September 14, 2009

Patrick Wayne Swayze, American actor, dancer, and singer-songwriter has died on September 14, 2009, he was 57 years old. His publicist says he died with his family at his side.

He was best-known as the male lead actor in the films Dirty Dancing and Ghost. He was listed by People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991.

Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in January 2008, Swayze gave cancer a good fight and succumbed to the disease on September 14, 2009. Swayze acknowledged that his chain smoking probably "had something to do with" the development of his disease, however, he continued to smoke during his battle with cancer.

He was the lead in an A&E TV series, The Beast, which premiered on January 15, 2009. However, due to a prolonged decline in health, Swayze was unable to promote the series. On June 15, 2009, Entertainment Tonight reported that the show had been canceled.

I first fell in love with Patrick Swayze during the North & South miniseries. He was so handsome and that voice, that body... so hot and yet so down to earth. He was so hilarious on the SNL skit with Chris Farley. He was magnificient in Ghost and he kicked butt in Too Wong Foo. All of his movies were great. He was a class act. I've been a big fan for many years and he never failed to deliver.

My best goes to Patricks wife and family. As I watched his interview with Barbara Walters, I rrelived many of the same comments my son had made before I lost him seven years ago, he was 30 years old. You never get over it and you will have something remind you always, but you get on with it each and everyday.

Rest in peace to a wonderful actor and God be with his family during this tragic loss. What a Gorgeous actor he was, and what a fighter to have battled such a horrific cancer, and yet, still smiled for the cameras. Rest In Peace Patrick as you will never be forgotten by your millions of fans. WE LOVE YOU!!!

I'm proud to be a fan. He made us cry in ghost, laugh and love with dirty dancing, feel tough as nails with road house, but more importantly he showed us how to be REAL. Not let fame, fortune, and good looks go to his head. I never heard of him cheating on his wife or forgetting where he came from. More of us should strive to be like that. You will be missed but never forgotten Patrick. May God bless you and your family.

When someone passes, whether known to all or a friend/family member, we think about the impact that soul had on others and the world. Patrick was not only H.O.T. but was a genuine person who allowed us all to share his highs and lows. We experienced his amazing career and his fight with cancer. The movies he made will be played for years to come for our children and their grandchildren. When they ask, "Who is he" and "where is he now"....we can share with them that Patrick could dance, act and love with more heart than most of us don't have the courage to even try let alone touch hearts with. RIP and keep on danc'in.
