Patrick Stewart wedding: Sir Ian McKellen says 'I do' to officiate marriage

Talk of a Patrick Stewart wedding is making national news headlines this week, as Wired reported this Tuesday, March 19, that Sir Ian McKellen of “The Hobbit” and “X-Men” will be showing his friendship for co-star Patrick Stewart by officiating his upcoming marriage.

Under the headline, “Sir Ian McKellen to officiate Patrick Stewart wedding”, sources report that during a recent appearance on a British talk show program, McKellen — who is openly gay — opened up on the very cool news while talking about his new movie “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

“I’m going to marry Patrick”, he said on the Patrick Stewart wedding before laughing and correcting himself. “How else do you put that? I’m going to officiate at his wedding.”

Sir Ian McKellen didn’t yet say how he’s able to legally wed Stewart and his fiancé, singer Sunny Ozell. However, he did admit that he’s officiated a union before, overseeing the civil union between two men back in the UK.

“I was crying my eyes out,” said McKellen.

Both McKellen and Patrick Stewart are known together as “X-Men” pals from their work together in the cast as Magneto and Prof. Charles Xavier, respectively.
