Phoenix Comicon Director Matt Solberg announced tonight that Sir Patrick Stewart will be one of the special guests in attendance at the May convention in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
The convention's 2012 Kick-Off celebration drew a crowd of over 500 attendees to the Phoenix Convention Center. This was the third kick-off in the convention's 10-year history and the largest crowd to date. In 2010, the con moved downtown from its previous home at the Mesa Convention Center in Mesa, Arizona.
Other actors from Star Trek: The Next Generation joining Stewart at the con on Sunday, May 27th are Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, Levar Burton and Michael Dorn. William Shatner, who joined The Next Generation cast in the feature film Star Trek Generations, was previously announced as a convention guest. Shatner will be appearing on Saturday. Star Trek: The Next Generation is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2012.
Other guests from the worlds of television and film announced tonight include Jaime Paglia, creator of Syfy's Eureka, actress Gigi Edgley of Farscape, actor Casper Van Dien of Starship Troopers and the Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal.
Phoenix Comicon runs from May 24 to May 27, 2012. Memberships are on sale; click here for information. Full event passes are $40 until May 23rd. The Hyatt Regency across from the convention center is the host hotel for the convention and a programming venue.
