Patrick Marleau leads Sharks past the Coyotes 4-1

The San Jose Sharks routed the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Shark Tank in San Jose, CA. Left winger Patrick Marleau led the Sharks with two goals and one assist in the game to earn him the first star.

The Sharks had plenty of chances in the first period and early in the second period but could not convert them including two chances with two-man advantages. San Jose had a heavy edge in shots on goal in the first two periods at 29-15, but the Coyotes drew first blood scoring a power play goal at the 7:50 mark of the second frame courtesy of a Ray Whitney wrister.

San Jose stormed back, however. The Sharks capitalized on a Shane Doan roughing penalty, and Dan Boyle scored a power play goal at the 9:05 mark of the second period. Joe Thornton added another power play goal in the second period less than three minutes later to give San Jose its first lead of the game. Two Patrick Marleau tally in the third period sealed the victory for the Sharks.

The Sharks will host Pacific Division rival Los Angeles Kings on Monday, December 27, 2010.
