Patrick Ianni began the 2010 Major League Soccer season as depth for the Sounders' central defense of Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Tyrone Marshall. After Hurtado was felled by an injury Ianni stepped in. Then Marshall also was injured, and Seattle signed Jeff Parke to replace him.
Suddenly, Seattle's center was Ianni and Parke, and soon after the club began a turnaround that led to a 2010 playoff spot.

Ianni played over 2,000 MLS minutes for Seattle in 2010. He was left unprotected in the recent expansion draft but the minute the Sounders lost Sanna Nyassi they pulled Ianni back and proctected him the rest of the way.
