The annual John Varvatos Stuart House Benefit took place this afternoon at the John Varvatos store in West Hollywood, Ca. The family friendly event attracted a star-studded guest list as well as raised much-needed funds for the Stuart House which is the rape treatment center at the UCLA Medical Center. Guests of today’s event included Patrick Dempsey, Jillian Dempsey, Zoe Saldana, KD Lang, Ryan Eggold, Kimberly Block, James Van Der Beek, Jayma Mays, L.L. Cool J, Julie Benz and Brooke Burke.
The 8th annual Stuart House Benefit included entertainment by singer KD Lang as well as a live auction which raised much-needed funds for the Stuart House. The Stuart House is an advanced facility which works to remedy many of the problems with the current system of treating child rape victims. Many of the processes which are set in place for young rape victims can add to the trauma such as repetitive interviews and multiple physical examinations.
The Stuart House looks at the system through a child’s eyes and brings everyone together to one location in order to eliminate the need for multiple interviews or physical examinations. Police, prosecutors and child protection personnel are brought into the Stuart House at one time and work together as a team. By creating collaboration between agencies, crucial services that a child needs are quickly provided and therapy for both the child and family is given right away.
