Video game developer Grinding Gear Games today announced a partnership with comic book publisher Dynamite Entertainment to launch a four-issue comic book series based on the developer’s online action-RPG, “Path of Exile”.

Currently boasting over 5.5 million registered users, “Path of Exile” is an online action-RPG, set in a dark fantasy world, Wraeclast. Players can choose from one of seven unique classes (Marauder, Ranger, Witch, Duelist, Templar, Shadow and Scion), each of which has been banished to the world of Wraeclast for their past misdeeds. As they explore the abandoned continent, they will encounter hundreds of types of formidable enemies, plenty of loot to plunder, and mysterious artifacts to discover.

You can sign up for “Path of Exile” or learn more about the game by visiting the official site.

Grinding Gear Games’ Creative Director, Erik Olofsson, and Narrative Designer, Edwin McRae, have worked in close collaboration with the staff that will be handling the comic, writer Royal McGraw and illustrator Carlos Rodriguez. Royal McGraw has worked on projects for DC Comics, EA, and the Syfy Channel, while Carlos Rodriguez has worked on comic book series like “Teen Titans”, “X-Men Vs. Agents of Atlantis” and “Nightwing”.

The first issue of the “Path of Exile” comic book series is planned for a summer release and will reveal some of the game’s backstory, combining elements of the existing in-game story with a new conflict, and tie in to an upcoming in-game event, an unannounced expansion. Each 22-page issue will release digitally, with individual cover art, and next year, Dynamite Entertainment will release a full-color, printed graphic novel for fans who would rather have a physical version. Additionally, each issue of the comic will feature unique in-game bonus for players, such as armor cosmetic effects.
