(Contains spoilers for Patch 5.4.) Tuesday's World of Warcraft patch 5.4 brought players a new zone (the Timeless Isle) and a new raid: Siege of Orgrimmar. Yesterday, MMO Champion announced that US Alliance guild “Availed” was the first to complete the new raid on the Horde capital. With this victory, the Alliance version of the cutscene revealing the Horde's new warchief is now public, and Vol'jin is officially the next leader of the Horde.
The video shows that, with Garrosh's defeat, Jaina Proudmoore hoped to take advantage of a power vacuum within the Horde. However, King Varian Wrynn was clearly not surprised to see Darkspear troll Vol'jin rise to leadership. Indeed, Vol'jin has been one of Garrosh's loudest critics since Thrall gave up the position as warchief to deal with the Cataclysm. Vol'jin also spearheaded the Darkspear Rebellion, in which the Horde and Alliance banded together to undermine Garrosh's Kor'kron forces, allowing for the siege featured in the raid.
The Horde version of the cutscene shows the leaders of the Horde accepting Vol'jin as warchief. This change in leadership is prompting some players who left the Horde to return, and some are predicting that there will be many more trolls seen roaming the streets of Orgrimmar in the coming months. If you have been waiting for this return of honorable leadership to the Horde, this is a great week to upgrade to the Mists of Pandaria expansion, only $20 at the Blizzard store until Sep. 17.
