Pat Robertson gives Christians something to think about

The multimillionaire Christian televangelist and faith-healer Pat Robertson has given Deists and freethinkers a golden opportunity to make those people currently still mired in the fear-based superstition of Christianity THINK! Pat has done us this favor by saying a married man whose wife was stricken with Alzheimer disease, and who has starting seeing another woman, should divorce her! Pat gave this advice during the "Bring it on" segment of the 700 Club television show on Tuesday in which Pat answers questions from the public and his audience. Pat said, "I know it sounds cruel, but if he's going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again, but make sure she has custodial care and somebody looking after her."

This is very cruel and heartless. When Pat's 700 Club co-host asked the Christian evangelist about marriage vows of fidelity "in sickness and in health," the charlatan Pat Robertson said, "If you respect that vow, you say 'til death do us part.' This is a kind of death."

Deserting a spouse because they have a disease is plainly wrong. Our God-given reason and conscience tell us this. This makes the point that a Deist's and a freethinker's "moral compass" is much, much better that a Christian's.

We need to bring this up in conversation with people, especially with Christians. If they say that Pat is not representative of Christians, we can respond by asking them if they believe the Bible is the word of God. When they say yes, we can ask why Pat or some other Christian hasn't healed the lady with Alzheimer disease since the Bible makes several promises that Christians can heal people through prayer, faith and/or anointing with oil. For example, Mark 16:18 clearly lists the signs of a Christian as, "They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." There are no qualifications put on having these powerful abilities. Mark 16:17 clearly states, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; . . ." According to this Bible promise, anyone who believes in the Gospels and Jesus will be able to, among other things, ". . . drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover!" (See our page Is It Time For Christians to Put Up or Shut Up?)

When we look at the Christian faith healers we see they don't rely on this Bible promise of healing through faith for themselves. For example, in 2009 the faith healer Pat Robertson had heart troubles. Did he have a Christian pray for him or did he pray for himself to be healed? NO! Pat Robertson went to a hospital and had 10 hours of heart surgery!

Likewise, the faith healer Joe Daugherty had cancer. Did he rely on what the Bible promises about healing? NO! Joe went to the hospital for cancer treatment. He eventually died of cancer.

It's obvious from everyday life that the Bible promise of healing through faith is a fraud. We need to bring this to the attention of everyone, especially those who believe in this Biblical fraud and lie. We also need to bring to their attention the callous teaching of one of their leading Christians, Pat Robertson. Even if you don't get a positive response right away, you are still planting seeds of doubt in their minds. And by mentioning Deism in the discussion, you're letting them know they have a valid and natural alternative to Christianity and to all "revealed" religions, as well as to Atheism and Agnosticism in Deism.

When 13 people in Largo, Florida were asked if they believed in the Bible promises of faith healing, two said "yes," 10 said "no" and one was not sure.
