“He is a disaster; an absolute disaster” Pat Robertson said on television yesterday. He was speaking about President Obama, who, Robertson hinted, is a secret Muslim. The remarks were made during a part of the 700 Club broadcast where Robertson was promoting a Christian Broadcast Network booklet, “Islam: Religion of Peace or War?”
According to Robertson, Obama’s secret faith in Islam was revealed when he addressed the UN General Assembly in 2012 and said, “the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”
“Our president is frankly out of his mind, making a statement like that,” said Robertson. “The future belongs to those who belong to God almighty, not those who believe in this stuff.”
"We need to do something to pray to be delivered from this president,” Robertson concluded. “He is a disaster, an absolute disaster. Democrat, Republican or whatever, this country is into serious decline unless something dramatic is done about it."
In the past Pat Robertson has complained that quotes of his are taken out of context by his critics, but as Right Wing Watch points out, that’s exactly what he was doing by omitting to quote the very next line of Obama’s speech:
“To be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied.”
Obama’s remarks, the watchdog site said, were about freedom of speech and religion; not a declaration of Islamic faith.
Pat Robertson’s remarks can be heard in their entirety in the video on this page.
