Pat Phelan joins Scorpions as grass goes in at Toyota Field

Thursday was a big day for the San Antonio Scorpions as they announced the signing of Pat Phelan while the field portion of Toyota Field was added.

Grass was added to Toyota Field on Thursday, which they kept local, getting the grass from Poteet, going with Tiff Sport grass.

The Scorpions are confident about the drainage of the stadium as well, although in San Antonio that may take some time to check, with the drainage system possible of seeing play one hour after up to six inches of rain.

Former New England Revolution holding midfielder Pat Phelan signed for the 2013 NASL season strengthening the Scorpions defense.

“Pat brings agility and know how to our defense,” said Head Coach Tim Hankinson in a press release. “His experience as a starter in Major League Soccer will be invaluable as we play hard to shut down opposing offenses.”

Phelan left the Revs at the end of 2011 and headed to Finland to play with SJK last season, where he managed 20 appearances and even managed to score a goal and the team managed a second place finish in the Yikkonen.
