With seconds remaining in the fight, Pat Curran pulled off a submission win to earn the Bellator featherweight title in dramatic fashion at Bealltor 112.

Curran submitted Daniel Straus by rear-naked choke with just 14 seconds left in the fifth round on Saturday night. The fight aired live on Spike TV from the Horseshoe Hammond Casino in Hammond, Ind.

Straus defeated Curran by decision in November to earn the featherweight title and even the series at 1-1. Curran originally defeated the Cincinnati native by KO in 2009.

Heading into the fifth and final round, the fight was tied on the scorecards. Judge Otto Torriero had the bout 39-37 for Curran, David Kinkel had it 39-37 for Straus, and Kevin Caldwell scored it 38-38.

With less than 90 seconds left in the final round, Curran scored a takedown and quickly took Straus’ back. Curran locked in a rear-naked choke and after trying to defend it for several seconds, Straus had to tap with just 14 seconds left.

Curran improves his record to 20-5 and will now face two-time tournament champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire later this year. Straus drops to 22-5 and his six-fight win streak is over.
