Pat Buchanan: Vladimir Putin is the leader of the global conservative movement

For all the ranting and raving the far-right has done over even minor details concerning President Obama's relations with foreign leaders, they sure have been spending a lot of time absolutely fangasming over Vladimir Putin as of late.

The latest to do so is WND's Pat Buchanan, who is absolutely thrilled with the Russian leader's anti-gay crackdown.

In yesterday's column, Buchanan lauded Putin as a leader of "conservatives and traditionalists in every country" who are resisting "the militant secularism of a multicultural and transnational elite" who push "abortion on demand, homosexual marriage, pornography, promiscuity, and the whole panoply of Hollywood values."

"He is seeking to redefine the 'Us vs. Them' world conflict of the future as one in which conservatives, traditionalists and nationalists of all continents and countries stand up against the cultural and ideological imperialism of what he sees as a decadent West," he wrote.

"'We do not infringe on anyone's interests,' said Putin, 'or try to teach anyone how to live.' The adversary he has identified is not the America we grew up in, but the America we live in, which Putin sees as pagan and wildly progressive."

Lost in Buchanan's anti-gay orgasm is the fact that Putin is still playing the old "Us vs. Them" conflict as well, most prominently with his support of Syrian leader Bashir al-Assad, who now stands accused of crimes against humanity.

Back in reality, there is only one "Us vs. Them" relationship that matters: The people who believe in freedom and equality for all, and the people who believe in freedom for themselves and invited guests only.

Putin is part of the latter category, as is Pat Buchanan.
