On Tuesday, August 16, 2011, more than forty pastors who were friends of Zachery Tims gathered together for a prayer vigil in his honor. The service comes three days before a public viewing and wake that will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011. Tims was once caught in an affair with a stripper that resulted in the end of his fifteen-year-marriage, and though authorities say white powder was found at the scene of his death, friends of Tims’ are asking the public not to jump to negative conclusions and speculations regarding his death or potential drug use. A cause of death has not been determined as an autopsy was ruled inconclusive. The New York Medical Examiner’s Office is currently awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine if any chemicals were present in his bloodstream. Tims’ body was found on August 12, 2011 at the W Hotel in New York by cleaning staff. The Central Florida paper, Orlando Sentinel, attended the prayer vigil and posted video online.
Jon Busdeker reported from Mount Olive A.M.E. Church which housed the vigil attended by church leaders throughout Central Florida. The pastors remembered Pastor Tims and prayed for his family and congregation.
“I felt that this was a great opportunity to for the churches at large in this community to unify, said Bishop Allen Wiggins of The Hope Church. “I was very pleased with the time of prayer, the time of worship and to hear even the encouraging words the pastors gave to each other, because we lost a comrade as well. So, pastors at large are mourning.”
On August 18, 2011, it was learned that T.D. Jakes will deliver the eulogy for Tims’ funeral which will be private on August 20, 2011. His wake, however, will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011 and a memorial service scheduled for 7:00-8:00 is expected to be streamed live on the Internet.
