Based on the story about Martha and Mary found in Luke 10:38-42, Pastor Blakey reminded the congregation that we might be distracted about many things, but we should be like Mary and focus on Jesus while sitting at His feet.
Martha worked real hard making preparations for Jesus while Mary took the time to sit with Jesus. When Mary wasn't helping, Martha told Jesus to tell Mary to help. That's when Jesus said:
"Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Often we focus on everything else except Jesus. When we have a problem, everybody else is called to help us. When we run out of options, that's when we focus on Jesus.
Also, we often focus on self when we should be focusing on Jesus. He is the one who died on the cross to save us from our sins.
At the end of the message, Pastor Blakey asked the congregation a question: "Where is your focus?" By that time, the congregants knew the answer he was seeking. Everyone said in unison, "On Jesus!"
