The background of these texts is that the Israelites were finally out of slavery from Egypt and at Mount Sinai where God spoke to Moses, and then Moses spoke to the people. The people were afraid because they had not kept God's covenant as they had been commanded to do.
We don't have to work for God, but we do the work of God.
We don't have to work for God's favor because we already have it. We already have His grace to be priests.
Pastor Paige gave three ways that we are priests.
- As priests, we have been chosen for a purpose. We are God's chosen people just as the Israelites were. Therefore, we should know that we are a treasured possession and a blessed people.
- As priests, we have access into the presence of God. The Israelites had full assurance to go into God's presence. God gives us that same assurance. He made a way through Jesus' death for us to go directly into His presence. He is not a far away God. As priests, we are near to Him.
- As priests, we are living sacrifices. We offer up our praise to God. We live as evangelists who bring God's love to others. A perfect example of a sacrifice is what Jesus Christ did for us by becoming a sacrifice so that we can operate as ministers because we are a royal priesthood.
