A pastor wrote, "I give God 10%, why do you get 18" on a tip receipt. On the restaurant's bill, the meal cost $34.93. A gratuity of $6.29 was added on it, but the pastor scribbled out the tip cost and wrote "0" on the line for "Adtl Tip."
According to the Christian Post Jan. 31, a waiter was stiffed a tip from the pastor after serving a party of 20 at his table. He posted an photo of the receipt on Reddit Tuesday. It has gotten 4,000 comments and has stirred up all kinds of discussion surrounding God and atheism.
The unidentified waiter on Reddit known as "gateflan," added this comment with the image:
"My mistake sir, I'm sure Jesus will pay for my rent and groceries."
When the pastor wrote on the tip receipt, "I give God 10%," he was referring to the customary tithe Christians in various denominations contribute in church.
Clearly this pastor didn't appreciate the hard work his waiter had to do and didn't attribute this to the fact that human beings need money on this earth to pay their bills.
Although the receipt reads $34.93, the total ran up to over $200. The waiter said the party asked for separate checks.
Here is what the waiter/Reddit user said:
"They ran up well over $200 before taxes or gratuity. They asked for separate checks, thinking it would get them out of the autograt, even though the same man paid for everything."
He added that he was complimented on his service as well.
"They had no problem with my service, and told me I was great. They just didn't want to pay when the time came," he said.
The waiter didn't identify himself or the restaurant where the incident occurred.
How do you feel about the pastor refusing to tip the waiter and writing the note he did on the receipt?
