Pastor Andy Thompson of "World Overcomers Christian Church" in Durham, NC is being criticized for his ‘hoes’ tweet.

Thompson, leader of the 10,000 member congregation tweeted,

“Ladies if you want to be the only woman your man looks at Shine It Up! Don’t let the hoes he comes across out shine you.”

Several members of the Christian community were upset about his "tasteless tweet".

Blogger Taurean Brown wrote “In no context whatsoever should women ever be referred to as hoes, not even women who are engaged in sex work.”

Pastor Thompson removed the tweet and responded via video message on YouTube.

“I’m so sorry. You’ll have to forgive me. I understand that it’s so easy for there to be misunderstanding," he said. He added, “I was in a marriage seminar. I was talking to wives. I was trying to help wives to save their marriage, to be successful in their marriage.”

Thompson is not the first spiritual leader to receive harsh judgement while using Twitter. Last year evangelical author and speaker John Piper was condemned for his untimely tweets after a tornado struck several homes.

"Your sons and daughters were eating and a great wind struck the house, and it fell upon them, and they are dead." Job 1:19

"Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped." Job 1:20

While Piper's tweets didn't mention the tornado by name, critics said it was too close, and inappropriate.
