PASTEL - A Brazilian recipe for you

Here's a special Brazilian recipe for you.

As you see the picture below, it's called PASTEL and you can use a variety of fillings to have it done: Grounded meat, shrimp, dry codfish, banana, cheese...

Let's say you'd like to have a PASTEL with shrimp.

INGREDIENTS:

To make the dough.

1 pound of flour

3 eggs

2 tablespoons of butter

1 teaspoon of yeast

1 teaspoon of salt

1 glass of whole milk

To cook.

1/2 pound of peeled shrimp

1 small onion

1 samll green pepper

1 teaspoon of minced garlic

1 teaspoon of salt

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

DIRECTIONS:

1 - Once you've mixed your ingredients and made your dough, let it rest while you cook your shrimp mixing all the ingredients (cut in small pieces or blended together)

2 - After you have your shrimp cooked and while it's cooling down, let's get to stage 3:

3 - Spread your dough and cut it in small round pieces (the size of a regular coffee sauce)

4 - Drop one tablespoon of your cooked shrimp in the middle of each cut dough and fold it.

5 - Using your own finger spread water along one half of your dough and use a regular fork to press down both sides together.

6 - When you get all the PASTEIS done, pour the vegetable oil into your cooking or deep frying pan.

7 - Once it's hot enough start placing them into your pan with a tablespoon so you won't spill hot oil all over you and burn yourself.

8 - When they start turning into a brownish color it's time to take them out.

9 - Use a double paper towell sheet to cover your serving tray or plate in order to absorve the extra oil from your PASTEIS.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Make sure that you spread some flour on your cutting board before spreading the dough so it won't stick on it.

While it's still warm is time to enjoy...

Paulo, it sounds very good. This reminds me of my friend from Colombia who makes empanadas. I think that is what she called them. Very tasty. Be sure you don't burn yourself with that hot oil :)

  • Hi Paulo! This recipe looks mighty tasty. And, as a matter of fact, I happen to have some dry, salted cod in my fridge, and I didn't just just what I would do with it. Thanks to you, I think I will be surprising my familia with this new recipe of yours ~ PATELS with cod. Yummy!

Paulo these look and sound wonderful. Will keep this recipe and have to make these soon. Can't wait to try this - maybe this weekend - plan on making bread so why not since there will be flour powder everywhere already.
