Pasta with cream sauce: Celebrate National Fettuccini Alfredo Day

See also

Back in 1914 there was a chef named Alfredo di Lelio who had a restaurant in Rome, Italy. His wife had just given birth to their first born, a son and just couldn’t get her appetite back after delivering.

To try and entice his wife to eat he created a dish made with butter, cream, Parmesan cheese and Fettuccine noodles. This creamy, thick sauced dish was a hit and his wife got her appetite back and was able to eat and recover from the drain child birth had over her.

Alfredo later served this dish in his restaurant and it became a success. Now every year on Feb. 7 we remember how this dish was created and celebrate a pasta food holiday called “National Fettuccini Alfredo Day”!

Fettuccini Alfredo is served today in many restaurants and made in many home kitchens as well. It is an easy dish to make and is a comforting dinner that fills you up. The melted cheese thickens the sauce and makes it creamy and different from other sauces usual to pasta dishes.

Fettuccini Alfredo can be made in its original recipe form or include other ingredients to bulk it up and bring new flavors, textures and nutrients to the dish. Try adding some shrimp, chicken, garlic or broccoli next time you plan this meal for dinner and you will have many variations to choose while using the same recipe and never bore the family at dinnertime.

Have pasta tonight and celebrate “National Fettuccini Alfredo Day”!
