Passwords hacked: Massive hack reveals common passwords

A team of researchers at TrustWave SpiderLabs has discovered 2 million passwords hacked and posted online, and some of those hacked passwords look awfully familiar. Every time passwords get hacked and posted online for the world to see, a pattern emerges.

Passwords hacked from 93,000 websites show that users still favor simple usernames and passwords in lieu of safer, more complicated, usernames and passwords. According to a Dec. 4, 2013 report by Yahoo, the top 25 most popular passwords discovered by hackers in this most recent attack are as follows:

If you look at this list of hacked passwords and recognize one of your own passwords among them, then it may be time to change your password. Experts recommend selecting passwords that cannot easily be guessed, and it doesn't take malicious software or a computer genius to figure out any of the passwords on the list.
