A passenger was wounded in an officer-involved shooting Monday night in southwest Atlanta, and an officer reportedly suffered minor injuries. But investigators said they are still trying to determine what happened.
The shooting happened on University Avenue, near the intersection with Pryor Road, according to Atlanta police said.
Around 8:30 p.m. officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that they said was driving erratically, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that during the officers’ investigation, the driver of the vehicle attempted to leave the scene,” Officer Jones. “It appears that the officer received non-life threatening injuries and fired several shots.”
The vehicle fled the scene and was located a short time later on Moury Avenue, Officer Jones said.
The driver was later apprehended and the passenger was found at AMC South in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, she said. Neither of their names have been released.
Investigators on Tuesday were working to gather the facts surrounding the shooting to determine what occurred.
