A passenger lands a plane after the pilot became incapacitated mid-flight and while this sounds like a movie scene, this happened recently in real-life. The passenger landed a small plane at a British airport, without any training as a pilot, but he got the aircraft down safely, according to Fox News on Oct. 9.
The plane was carrying just two people when air traffic control received an urgent mayday call as the plane neared Humberside Airport in northeast England. Flight instructors took to the airport's tower to talk this passenger through a safe landing on Tuesday.
The plane made several landing attempts before the final approach when it came down with a “thump,” according to witnesses. Sparks flew from underneath the small plane but it came to a stop with the passenger who made the landing emerging unhurt. The pilot later died.
One of the flight instructors, Rob Murray, sang praises for the passenger who did a good job of getting the plane down safely. He said that the passenger did a “remarkable job.”
The pilot or the passenger who landed the plane names were not released.
