A 57-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning when the vehicle he occupied was struck by officer’s patrol car on a south Atlanta street.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased victim as Mr. Aaron Brown Sr., of Atlanta. His body had to be cut from the vehicle, according to Atlanta police.

The wreck happened around 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Beeler Drive, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said.

When officers arrived they found the wrecked city of Atlanta police vehicle and a Mercury Villager.

Investigators said the Mercury attempted to make a left turn onto Beeler Drive when it was struck by the patrol car traveling west on Cleveland Avenue.

“The driver of the Mercury Villager and a rear seat passenger were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries,” Officer Jones said. “The officer involved in this collision was also transported to Grady Hospital with minor injuries.

“As a result of the collision, Atlanta Fire Rescue was required to cut the vehicle to remove the decedent from the vehicle.”

Investigators said they are checking to determine if speed and alcohol contributed to the collision. So far, no charges have been filed and police have not identified the officer or the driver of the Mercury.
