From February 20-22, 2014, the Pasquerilla East Musical Company will be presenting Legally Blonde: The Musical. The musical is based on the 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon. According to IMDb, her character, Elle Woods, is a blonde, popular sorority girl who attends Harvard Law School in an attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend. While at law school, she learns more about life and herself than she ever imagined.
PEMCo, as the musical company is commonly called, is the largest student-run musical theater company on campus. In 1997, a resident of Pasquerilla East Hall named Kelly McGann started the company in order to address the lack of musicals performed on campus. Students now do all the directing, acting, set-building, music, costumes and publicity in order to make the shows a success.
PEMCo puts on three productions every year: the Mainstage, the spring musical revue, and the Fall Show. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was the first Mainstage show performed in 1997, the Revue began in 2002 and showcases the company members' talent, and the Fall Show began in 2008.
The shows will be performed from Thursday, February 20, 2014 through Saturday, February 21, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Washington Hall on the University of Notre Dame's campus. Tickets are on sale at the LaFortune Student Center Box Office: tickets are $8 for the public and $6 for students. The show is directed by Jacob Schrimpf.
