Have wine, will travel, seems to be the motto of Paso Robles winemakers, as they giddy up to Los Angeles on the second leg of the Paso Robles Grand Tasting Tour, marketing the nationally acclaimed wines of Paso Robles. Intense wines, full of character and fruit, concentrated with all that California sunshine and a sense of place, they are delicious and delightful, true meditation wines to help you ponder the meaning of life and your place in the universe!
Paso Robles wines have grabbed the attention of the wine world, and the business world with their rise in prominent Rhône red varietals and blends that's shaking up the market. When Wine Spectator lavished praise on these wines, most recently the Top 100 Wines of 2012, with the 2009 Saxum Vineyards James Berry Vineyard scoring 97/100 points, and the 2010 Booker Vineyard Fracture Syrah a close 96 points, to name a couple, wine drinkers from around the world have taken notice. In fact Saxum’s 2007 James Berry Vineyard red blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, was named wine of the year in 2010, scoring a perfect 100 points from Robert Parker himself. If you’re not familiar with the wines of Paso, this is the chance to become acquainted with what makes their wines unique without the investment of a road trip, although beware, you may become so smitten and inspired from the first sip that you may find yourself behind the wheel the following weekend to check it out firsthand.
On Thursday, February 28th, from 6 - 8:30 pm, more than 30 wineries from Paso Robles, including JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, Tablas Creek Vineyard, L’Aventure Winery, Cass Winery, and many more, will pour their wines, in excess of 150 different wines, accompanied by cheese and charcuterie from Peacock Cheese Company and The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills. This tasting will be held at The BookBindery in Culver City, and is sponsored by the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance, to shine the spotlight on California’s next Napa Valley. It’s a great opportunity to taste what makes this area of California’s Central Coast so special, with it’s limestone soils, daily temperature swings that ripen the grapes and help keep good acidity in the wine, and world class experts who have flocked here to make incredible wine.
