Pasadena made music this weekend – just not Salsa

June 20, 2011 – With 25 stages and over a hundred musical numbers, Make Music Pasadena had Colorado Blvd buzzing on Saturday.  Extending from St. John Avenue to Lake Avenue, those willing to walk could enjoy from Vital Group’s rock at The Luckman World Music Stage to classical music on the steps of City Hall.  But you could walk until you were blue in the face… and never find Salsa.

Tropical music, along with Latin Jazz, was nowhere to be found.  Latin sounds were available in the form of La Santa Cecilia’s cumbia-rock, or the reggae fusion of The B-Side Players, or the flamenco notes of Café Fuego, but tropical sounds?

Why would that happen?  Are there no tropical/Salsa bands in Pasadena?  Did no Salsa musician take a bid to participate?  Or were Salsa bands simply not accepted?  Whoever knows the answer, would you let the rest of us know please?
