After watching a segment about fish and chips on CBS Sunday Morning (Jan 8, 2012) we headed out to the Bob’s Big Boy at 899 E Del Mar Blvd. in Pasadena to catch a plate of crispy fish fillets and fries. Much to our surprise, the doors were closed and a sign on the front door informed us that the restaurant was closed (it had just opened January 22, 2010)!
We were sorry to say goodbye to the good food, 50s atmosphere and superbly friendly staff there. It’s always hard to figure out why a restaurant closes, especially since this location was always hoppin’ when we went there.
We’d like to say goodbye to our favorite food servers, management and cooks, and to thank them for their smiles, and the piles of hot, delicious food they served there. It was the only restaurant in town that offered their famous spaghetti and chili size, a bowl of chili and beans over a beef patty, then topped with spaghetti and grilled onions. Heaven in a bowl! We’ll miss you.
Another old family favorite, Marie Callender’s, which was located at 2300 E Foothill Blvd. in Pasadena, has closed its doors. Say goodbye to their homey atmosphere, fresh baked pies, chicken pot pie and Sunday morning brunch. The next closest location is in Arcadia at 820 S Baldwin Avenue, so if their TV specials about the chicken pot pie, salad and piece of pie for only $10.99 are driving you crazy, you’ll just have to go there!
On a brighter note, this Saturday January 14th you can make your meal count for a good cause. You can eat a lovely vegan meal at The Veggie Grill's Farmers Market location at 110 S. Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles from 11am- 10pm to benefit the good folks at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)
When you mention peta2 while placing your order 10 percent of your final purchase (excluding taxes and gift cards) will be donated to peta2!
