On Friday, August 8 Orlando metal band Meka Nism is holding a Kickstarter launch party at St. Matthews Tavern, the same day their campaign launches online. The band is looking to raise funds for their upcoming EP “The Shift: Anthems of a Revolution” due to be released in the late summer or early fall of this year.

The party has two purposes. One goal is to bring the Orlando music and art community together and of course the other is to get the band’s fundraising campaign off to a great start. There will be donation stations, a silent auction, guest host/MC David Plotkin and special guest bartenders.

In the band’s press release about the event, Meka had this to say about the party and the campaign, “The goal of this Kickstarter is not only to help us fund our next album, but to activate the energy of the community to manifest the artistic projects they want and not have to rely on corporate labels. We want to represent Orlando to our fullest potential and show that this city is the next up and coming source for music, art and superior talent.”

Formed in 2011, Meka Nism has garnered a lot of notice including placing in the top three for the last two years in the Orlando Weekly fan poll for Best of Orlando. In 2013, they released their debut EP “The Dance at the End of the World” and their first official music video “Bring the Sun Back.”

The female-fronted band, Meka (lead vocals), Reed Tyack (drums), Alvin Bauer (bass) and Bobby Keller (lead guitar), has an upcoming show at the Orlando House of Blues on August 29. They will be appearing with Born From Ashes, Sunshine & Bullets and Anyone’s Guess.

St. Matthews Tavern is located at 1300 N. Mills Ave. in Orlando. The 21+ party is scheduled from 7-11 p.m. and admission is FREE, although donations at the door are encouraged.
