November 4, 2011 (New York, NY) -- Led Zeppelin dopplegangers Lez Zeppelin, and the closest-you'll-probably-get-to-the-real-thing Austrailian Pink Floyd play New York City this weekend. I'd like to be able to make some joke about dinosaurs or retro Halloween costumes, but the fact is that these are two top-notch groups with their own, serious followings under their collective belts.
Steph Paynes will unleash her inner Jimmy Page tonight (Friday), along with the rest of her Lez Zeppelin cohorts, at 8 PM sharp at the Hiro Ballroom. The band haven't played in New York City in a bit, so this is a great chance to see them rocking the house at a great venue.
The band's recent reworking of "Led Zeppelin I" hit all the right notes both musically and aesthetically, so there's no doubt they'll rock your socks off if you make it down to 9th Avenue and 16th Street.
And be sure to check out my interview with Steph here if you're not convinced.
Pink Floyd's drummer Nick Mason recently told me how ironic he found it that he'd heard the Australian Pink Floyd had been facing some internal strife, but they also may just be the most famous tribute band out there. A couple of years ago when I played some shows in Liverpool at a respectable 1,200-seater the Aussie Floyd were down the road playing the O2 Arena. So not only are they known for their note-for-note recreations of Floyd classics and full-production stage show, but they regularly sell out venues that some original artists from the heyday of rock'n'roll can't even touch.
The Australian Pink Floyd play the Best Buy Theater in Times Square tomorrow (Saturday) night, and if reviews of the current tour are anything to go by it certainly shouldn't be missed.
