Burst the Balloon is a great party game for kids of all ages. It's also a good game to play at a party where the ages of the kids are mixed because no one has an advantage in this game. It's a fair game for all ages and each child gets a prize!
Before the party, blow up enough balloons for each party guest to have a balloon, plus some extras in case you need them. You can use various sizes of balloons. They do not have to be the same size. And to not blow them up too tight. You want them to be a bit squishy.
As you blow up the balloons, slip a piece of paper inside each balloon before you tie it off. Just number the pieces of paper starting with 1, 2, 3, etc. Then put all the blown up balloons in a trash bag and set them aside until it's time for the game.
If you blew up 15 balloons, you will need 15 little prizes. You can use any little thing such as candy, coins, stickers, etc. Just make sure each prize is good for any age and that it's good for girls and boys both. You can put the prizes in paper lunch bags or you can tuck them inside empty toilet paper rolls or you can wrap them in gift wrap. After you have them all concealed, number each prize starting with 1, 2, 3, etc.
When it's game time, bring out the balloons. Pick a child's name randomly from a hat, let that child pick out a balloon and have them burst the balloon by sitting on it. The kids will all get a good laugh watching the child roll around on the balloon trying to burst it.
When the balloon bursts, have the child open the piece of paper that was inside the balloon. Then give the child the prize that matches that number. Then that child gets to pick a name out of the hat for the next child who gets to burst a balloon! Just continue until all the kids have a turn!
