Party appetizers: Candy pizza

Choco-holics unite! If you love chocolate as much as the Buffalo Baking Examiner, you’ll love this recipe for candy pizza. There are many others available online, but this is the recipe the author tasted at a recent holiday party. The fun part: with different toppings, this pizza can be customized to feature the colors of the teams participating in the Super Bowl, or your favorite team’s colors! Basic Milk Chocolate Candy Pizza

Combine 1-1/2 cups milk chocolate chips and three 1 oz. squares of semi-sweet chocolate in a medium-sized microwaveable bowl. Microwave at medium (50%) for four to six minutes, stirring twice, until chocolate is smooth.

Stir-ins: use one or more of the following items, equaling two cups total – crispy rice cereal, corn flakes cereal, crushed pretzels, chopped nuts, slivered almonds, or miniature marshmallows. Add to chocolate mixture.

Line baking sheet with parchment paper, then spread chocolate mixture evenly onto sheet in a circle approximately 10” in diameter.

Toppings: once the base is formed, top with one or more of the following toppings, equaling 1/2 to 3/4 cup – miniature jelly beans, candied fruit, candied or maraschino cherries, licorice pieces, shredded coconut, candy coated chocolate pieces, candy corn.

Frosting: combine 1/4 pound white or chocolate candy coating with 1 teaspoon shortening in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave until melted and drizzle over candy pizza.

Chill for at least 90 minutes, until set. Peal from paper and serve in wedges or break into pieces.
