The 4th annual 24-Hour Relay for Life of Lynwood will be held this June 7 and 8 to join community efforts to fight against cancer, raise funds for research, and honor survivors and those who have lost their battles.

Taking place at a new venue (Lynwood High School, 4050 Imperial Highway) this year’s Relay for Life of Lynwood aims to bring out scores of teams to camp out, cheer on, and walk for 24 straight hours around the high school’s Olympic-sized track. With registrations taking place that same morning, teams are being encouraged to meet at Lynwood High School at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, and assure that one member of their team remains on the track at all times through 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 8.

So far only 60 people have registered for Lynwood’s Relay of Life. People of all ages are encouraged to participate in this very good cause. “We host many events in our community, and they are all entertaining, good natured and at times educational,” said Deborah Jackson, Director of the City’s Public Relations. “This event on the other hand is probably the most educational and humbling event that cities like ours can host because it brings families together, not just to stand up against cancer, but to learn about the meaning of giving and expecting nothing in return.”

Open to people of all ages, the event does not require for teams to stay for the entire duration of the event. “People are encouraged to stop by and make contributions at the American Cancer Society booth, they can stop by and support teams, or they can stop by and pay $10 for a luminaries bag that will be named and lit in honor of a lost loved one for the candle light vigil,” said Jackson. “It’s a beautiful event. If people can’t contribute, walk, run or camp out, it’s still a beautiful and miraculous event to see unfold. Your support is encouraged, because every little bit helps.”

Registration is $10 per person, and it is free for survivors. Interested persons may register online HERE. The event will feature an array of informational booths and a fundraising taco sale. For more information, call (213) 700-7485.
