Part two: You are officially a Sanford, Florida resident when…

Steady doctors, cool license plates, and voter registration are all worthy means for becoming a Sanford, Florida resident.  Following up with part one of this article, there a few more items to tick off on the residency list before it becomes truly official:

3.  You own a library card even though your online hold requests disappear into big, black holes.

The librarian insulted her own antiquated system at the Northwest Branch Library in Lake Mary.  For Sanfordites, Lake Mary and Sanford Seminole County Library branches are equidistant.  A huge plus, except that personal books put on hold a few months ago—The Help and The Book Thief—disappeared from the online account and are in some other happy reader’s hands.  What can you expect from a library branch that has books on disheveled counters and bookcases with handwritten signs pointing out where whole genres have (have not) moved?  Non-Floridians judge you by your library.  You’ve been warned.  Thank goodness for mom-and-pop used bookstores like Maya Books and Music in historic Sanford.  Great prices in an eclectic little store with major personality.  A bookie’s dreams.   Still, a library card definitely equates to residency, even if it leaves you lost in between C and D in the fiction, mystery, and large print section--all at the same time.

4.  You know that Larry the Cable Guy is really from Nebraska

Git-R-Done!  Yes, Larry the Cable Guy owned a 1.55 million dollar house in Sanford, Florida (and previously lived in West Palm Beach), and yes, his character may be strongly influenced by his surrounding Florida neighborhoods.  However, Larry—Dan Whitney—is not from Florida at all.  Dan was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Git-it-right!

Lastly…

5.  You have a salon that you love and trust and another salon that you may recommend to your Confederate flag-bearing neighbor who blasts rap music out of his big, red truck--dead butterflies on the dashboard and all.

A good haircut is the essential to a good day.  No one wants his/her fiancé to come home with chipped glasses that the hairdresser accidentally knocked on the floor and hair that needs a trim less than three weeks later (cough, cough the Hair Cuttery).  FawnFeather MediSpa and Salon on the border of Sanford and Heathrow is just the place for a relaxing day with quality service.  Hairdressers feel like close friends and there are many other options for looking fabulous.  Located at 120 International Parkway, this salon and spa has everything you need and makes you feel right at home.  In fact, their hospitality makes you feel more and more like a resident of Florida.

Official resident of Sanford, Florida?  Check.  Or at least halfway there.

Do all of these things make you an official Floridian, though? Hmmm...
