Part 2 of 2: Jason Charles Miller discusses his solo career, music production and voice over work

(Continued from Part 1) Though Godhead is working on another LP right now, Jason has been currently focusing on his solo career as Jason Charles Miller. He self produced his first EP. That effort which was mainly acoustic, he considers a a bridge with its darker lyrics to what he's now doing with Nashville and Outlaw inspired country music going back to elements and inspirations he couldn't use as part of a Goth rock band. Some of those outlaw and country influences he listed were the Allman Brothers Band, Lynrd Skynrd, Neil Young, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash.

Music production, which he started doing about 6 years ago, is one of the many ways that Jason makes a living in the music business. Prior to his LP with Marilyn Manson, he didn't make much money from touring or record sales. This LP with Manson, 2000 Years of Human Error, was the only LP from which Godhead and Jason received any royalties. Jason also made money through licensing deals with Godhead for music used in movies like Queen of the Damned, and Dracula 2000. Additionally Jason got royalities from a co-write he did with Ben Moody that was placed on the soundtrack for the movie "The Punisher." Prior to this though, Jason like many other aspiring musicians worked a lot of odd jobs and used any spare time he had to work on his music.

Now in addition to production, Jason makes money from songwriting (he has a deal with Bicycle Publishing Co), renting his studio particularly for voice over work, and acting (on camera and voice overs). Recently he co-wrote a song with a rock band signed to a major label. Always being a fan of Japanese Anime, Jason took some classes for voice acting and does voice over work for commercials, cartoons, and video games like Super Street Fighter 4, World of Warcraft and Resident Evil amongst others.

However, all this voice over work supplements what he loves, his music. So coming soon Jason has two one week trips to Nashville planned in May and June. During each week, he'll be writing with ten different writers in five days. Plus he'll participate in song writer showcases. The one in May is scheduled for the 19th at the Listening Room, and the one in June is still in the planning stages.

Regarding his rediscovering his country roots after growing up in Virginia, Jason concluded our discussion by stating, "I've seen many people go solo from a band, and that person's solo music sounds just like the band that he or she is in. But for my solo career I wanted to pursue a totally different direction, and perform music that I never could with Godhead. I've always loved Godhead's music and I always will, but I've also always had a real passion for country music, and now is my chance to pursue it."
