7 Part Series featuring 7 galleries participating in Nudes Downtown, 2014

Due to last week’s snow events, many people who wanted to get out to the Second Saturday Art Walk events and the Nudes Downtown, 2014 events, missed the gallery openings. To highlight the galleries, the artists, and the art I will be writing a series of articles between now and the 2nd Saturday Artwalk in March, featuring all the galleries and venues that are participating with this year’s Nudes Downtown, 2014.

Part One: In-D-Hair Gallery 2129 Marine Drive, Astoria, Oregon Open 3-8 Saturday, Feb. 15.

In-D-Hair Gallery will be holding its Grand Opening Saturday, February 15, 2014. What began when artists met and put together a pop-up exhibit in Pete Gimre’s space on 14th in December, has grown and become In-D-Hair Gallery. One of the founding members of In-D-Hair Gallery, Sheryl Redburn, the owner of the Hair Gallery at 2129 Marine Drive in Astoria, Oregon, has generously offered the space to artists interested in exhibiting and selling their art. Sheryl is not only a business owner and artist, but also she is a graduate student in Marylhurst University’s Art Therapy program. A busy person, she has still managed to support and help get the gallery ready for this Saturday’s opening. The Gallery is arranged with little cafe tables and chairs for you to enjoy the complementary desserts, wine, and light refreshments. While you enjoy meeting the artists and viewing the artwork, you will have the opportunity to see the fine selection of jewelry, photography, paintings, and collaged wooden boxes. The Grand Opening of In-D-Hair Gallery (independent) will be open from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will continue to be open on Saturdays in the future.

Artist, Yvonne Edwards, one of the main forces behind getting this gallery off the ground, has worked hard to coordinate and organize the other artists for their Grand Opening event. Edwards described the event as a “Valentine’s party with a dessert bar, wine, and other treats. We want to introduce the community to our new space and to our artists. We also set up a Valentine’s photo op for anyone interested in sticking their heads through two pretty hearts for us to take their Valentine’s photo.” Yvonne Edwards brings not only her creative flair to the gallery, but also her beautiful artwork. She is a talented artist as well as a successful therapist.

A portion of the Grand Opening is devoted to gallery members who participated in Nudes Downtown, 2014, including Yvonne Edwards,

Other gallery members include: Rosalie Altena and Bryan Jordan, both transplants from Kansas. Their artwork is new and interesting, and you won’t want to miss meeting them and seeing their artwork.

Sheryl Redburn, Blaine Verley, Thom Dickerson, and Catherine Al-Meten are also part of the In-D-Hair Gallery group. Thom Dickerson and Catherine Al-Meten are both local photographers, Blaine Verley does oils featuring a lot of local subjects, and Sheryl Redburn does beautiful and provocative mixed-media artwork.
