Parrot and Toutant advance to finals in Olympic slopestyle snowboarding

According to the International Ski Federation website on Thursday, Maxence Parrot of Cowansville, Quebec and Sebastien Toutant of L'Assomption, Quebec have advanced directly to the finals of the men's slopestyle snowboarding competition.

Parrot, who is a gold medal contender after winning the 2014 Winter X Games last month in Aspen, Colorado, won heat two with a score of 97.5. Toutant meanwhile posted a score of 87.25 to finish in third place in heat one. The top four snowboarders in each heat advanced directly to the finals.

Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan, the three-time X Games and gold medal favourite before breaking his rib when he hit a rail at the X Games last month, only finished in seventh place in heat two and needs to qualify for the finals through the semi-finals.

The semi-finals will go Friday evening at 10:30 p.m. mountain time with four more spots available for the final which will take place Saturday at 1:45 a.m. mountain time.
