Parma standoff: A standoff that occurred early morning on Wednesday has ended with the arrest of a 21-year-old man. The standoff took place at Towerview Apartments in Parma, Ohio. According to a Sept. 25 report from Fox8, the incident began around 5:30 a.m. after police received a call that a man, who was believed to be armed, was barricaded in his apartment.
A tenant inside the apartment building reported that a man living on the third-floor apartment was yelling and breaking windows. After seeing officers outside his apartment, the deranged man yelled out that he was armed with a “Mac-10” machine pistol and ordered police put their hands in the air.
Based on police testimony, the suspect demanded officers give him a phone. Police crisis negotiators were called to the standoff after the man refused to surrender. However, after several hours, the man ceased communication with police and SWAT team members stormed the apartment.
The man, who was inside the apartment alone, fled to another area of the apartment. Police say he resisted efforts to take him into custody and a Taser was used.
Despite the man's claims of having a gun, no weapons were found inside the apartment.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries. Details surrounding the Parma standoff are still being investigated.
